NORTHPORT governor Erick Arejola found himself in hot water for his involvement in a full-blown melee during a high school basketball game.

Footage from the incident last Sunday showed the executive charging at a person in the late stages of a semifinal game between De La Salle Zobel and Arandia College in the NBTC local qualifying tournament for Las Pinas, a qualifier for the South Luzon Regional Championship.

SPIN.ph sources bared that tension reached a boiling point when DLSZ’s Kieffer Alas was whistled for an unsportsmanlike foul with his team comfortably ahead, 89-78, with 61 seconds left in the game.

Arandia players retaliated by throwing an elbow and exchanged words with the already heated parents from the Junior Archers side including Arejola which eventually led to an all out brawl.

Arejola’s son Champ is part of the De La Salle Zobel team.

The game was eventually abandoned with DLSZ being awarded the victory, although the league organizers are still figuring out corresponding penalties for the fracas.

The Junior Archers will play AMA Basic Education of Las Pinas in the finals weekend, although the game is expected to be held behind closed doors.

Players from Arandia College have also made a report in the blotter of the local police with regard to the incident.

Arejola has yet to release a statement about the incident, but sources close to the PBA executive explained that the former La Salle player only got involved when his son got punched in the fracas.

Champ Arejola’s mother and sister were on the court when he was attacked, the source added.

The NBTC has also already released a statement, denouncing the violence that happened while letting the local organizers, the LPM basketball league, hand out penalties for the players involved.
